I was born around 5am on November 8, 1960 in Beijing ( 北京 ), China. My name, Liang, was given to me by my parents because around that time, there was a famine in China; the Chinese government was promoting a policy of "Centering on Food;" and the word, Liang ( 良 ), has the same sound as "Liang ( 糧 )”except it doesn't have rice( 米 ) in it standing for no rice.

I was told later on that food was so scarce around that time, I once was so hungry and tried to chew a toy camel for a meal.

I also cried a lot because of the hunger; in order to calm me down, my Mother and my fifth aunt had to gently rock me back and forth until I fell to sleep.

I heard the beauty of Chinese is that its words have multiple meanings.

I am often pleased that my name, Liang, also means "goodness" or "good in nature" like "conscience" in "The Weight of Conscience" ( 良心的重量 ).

Another meaning of my name, Liang, I am particular fond of is "second" or "next to the best." My reason is I should never be too focused on one thing for the sake of being the best such that I would forget there are many other important matters in the world. I feel this feeling of mine has kept me very sane in this competitive world.

One beautiful way Chinese use children's name is they double the first name up when they call the child as the term of endearment. My family would call me or refer me as Liang Liang ( 良良 ) before I was in high school. Even recently, at the age of 52 years old, my third aunt had referred me as Liang Zi ( 良子 ) as another term of endearment.

呂良，出生于中國(guó)北京，北京大學(xué)地球物理系學(xué)士，考上CUSPEA，美國(guó)馬里蘭大學(xué)物理系碩士、博士，美國(guó)芝加哥藝術(shù)學(xué)院總統(tǒng)獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金獲得者(油畫和雕塑)，美國(guó)洛斯阿拉莫斯國(guó)家實(shí)驗(yàn)室博士后，發(fā)明了數(shù)據(jù)挖掘方面專利。后來，在美國(guó)幾家大的保險(xiǎn)公司工作。2013年回國(guó)，從事保險(xiǎn)、銀行咨詢工作，并大量閱讀和寫作，完成了三本書《The Weight of Conscience》、《呂》、及《未名湖畔三百首》。

《The Weight of Conscience》已由電字書設(shè)計(jì)制作，中國(guó)出版社出版，向全球讀者發(fā)布！
